2013-2014 Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Elizabeth Supan
I know it sounds a bit cliché, but I am one of those teachers who knew that she would be a teacher ever since she was a little girl. Truly, I did. I could often be found in my garage with the neighborhood children “teaching school”. I would scour my teachers’ trash for anything that I could take home and use in my own “classroom”. They started to just hold out materials to give to me. I was called to be a teacher. Even from an early age, I loved learning. I loved the idea of learning, growing and becoming a better person through education. I watched my teachers. I was inspired by my teachers. I wanted to emulate those teachers when I grew up. I try to carry a little bit of what I learned with me into my classroom every morning. I have been teaching for over nineteen years and my enthusiasm for teaching grows each and every year. I will do everything in my power to ensure that my students learn. I believe in my students and in their power to learn. It is up to me, as their teacher, to find the method that will ensure that they are successful. For me, becoming a teacher was not a job choice. It was, and still is, a calling.
I have been married to my husband, Brian, for eighteen years. We have two beautiful children, Sarah and Matthew. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love to read, bake, and create “crafty” things for my home and classroom. I love to travel and enjoy going camping with my family when the weather is not too hot. I’m truly honored to be representing Aiken Elementary as our Teacher of the Year and Aiken County as the District Teacher of the Year.
